Relief of Ladysmith - the last rush at Hlangwane Hill, 19 February 1900. During the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902) the British in Ladysmith were besieged by the Boers from 1 November 1899 to 28 February 1900. The defence was under the command of General George Stuart White (1835-1912). The British force to relieve the town was led by General Redvers Buller. The taking of Hlangwane Hill on 17-19 February by the British began the collapse of the Boers. Eventually the Boer lines round Ladysmith were broken on 27 February and the town relieved the following day.
