The approach to Ladysmith, 2nd Boer War, 18 January 1900. British forces hauling a 4.7 inch naval gun across the Tugela (Thukela) River 20 miles from Ladysmith. The British under General Buller suffered heavy casualties in the effort to reach Ladysmith which was under siege from 1 November 1899 to 28 February 1900.
