Nordenskjold rescued from Snow Hill Island, Antarctica, 1903. (Nils) Otto (Gustaf) Nordenskjold (1869-1928) Swedish explorer and geologist, led the Swedish Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904. The expedition left Gothenburg in the 'Antarctic' on 16 October 1901. 'Antarctic' was crushed in the ice and sank on 12 February 1903. Having spent two winters on the ice, Nordenskjold and his party were rescued by the Argentinian relief expedition on the 'Uruguay' on 7 November 1903. From Le Petit Journal (Paris, 6 December 1903.
