Mao Zedong and Lin Biao, China, c1966. Mao (Mao Tse-Tung) (1893-1976), Chinese Communist leader, followed by Lin Biao (1908-1971), Chinese military and political leader, who is holding a copy of the 'Little Red Book' (Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong), which he compiled. Lin was killed in a plane crash in 1971, allegedly fleeing China after a failed coup against Mao's leadership.
