Trade Union Scroll, 1851. Amalgamated Society of Engineers, Machinists, Millwrights, Smiths and Pattern-Makers scroll which would be presented to members. Above the plinth are three portraits of engineers and inventors Samuel Crompton (left), James Watt (centre) and Richard Arkwright (right). The vignettes at the bottom illustrate each of the trades in the Union and, bottom centre, a steam engine.
