'St Jerome', mid 15th century. Born Eusebius Hieronymus Sophronius, St Jerome (c342-420) was a leading father of the Christian church. He prepared the first Latin translation of the Bible from Hebrew (Vulgate). Fresco in the Chapel of Nicholas V, Vatican, Rome, dedicated to St Stephen and St Laurence.
