Lesage experimenting with the first electric telegraph, Geneva, 1774 (c1870). George Louis Lesage (1724-1803), Swiss scientist, devised an early form of electric telegraph. It had a separate wire for each letter of the alphabet and a range limited to the distance between two rooms in Lesage's home.
