Commodore Andrew Hull Foote, American naval officer, late 19th century. Foote (1806-1863) served in the Union Navy in the American Civil War. He was seriously wounded commanding an attack on the Confederate stronghold of Fort Donelson in 1862. Retired from active duty, Foote was promoted to the Rear-Admiral and made chief of the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting.
