'Chamberlain and Paugus at Lovewell's Fight', 1725, (1872). John Chamberlain shoots Paugus. John Lovewell, (1691-1725) was a British explorer and soldier who lived in Dunstable, now Nashua, New Hampshire. He fought in Dummer's War as a militia captain leading three expeditions against the Abenaki Indians. Engraving from John Gilmary Shea's A Child's History of the United States, Hess and McDavitt, (New York, 1872).
