'For nineteen years this poor queen was kept in prison', 16th century, (1905). Before her execution, Mary, Queen of Scots was held in prison between 1568 and 1587 on the orders of Queen Elizabeth I. Illustration from Our Island Story by H E Marshall, published by T C & E C Jack Ltd, (London and Edinburgh, 1905). The book gave a very biased and pro-British view of history.
