'To the Temple of Fame', 1858. 'Mr. Punch (with the Greatest Respect). After you, my Lord!' This cartoon shows Mr Punch respectfully deferring to Lord Brougham. At this time, there was much discussion about the Social Science Association that had held its first meeting in Birmingham in October 1857 under Lord Brougham's presidency. In 1858, its assembly was held in Liverpool with Lord Brougham making a keynote speech to promote social science and its study. From Punch, or the London Charivari, October 23, 1858.
