'Latest from Spirit-Land', 1863. Ghost of King George III says: Well, Mr. Washington, What Do You Think of Your Fine Republic Now, Eh? - What D'Ye Think? What D'YeThink, Eh? Ghost of Mr. Washington replies: Humph! As the American Civil War became more bitter, and showed no sign of reaching any peaceable conclusion, Punch here portrays King George III, whose troops were beaten by those led by General George Washington, the first President of the United States. The ghost of George is shown prodding the ghost of Washington, and asking rather smugly, what has become of Washington's beloved Republic. Washington has no answer. From Punch, or the London Charivari, January 10, 1863.
