'Turkish Bath in Latherington Street', 1866. 'This is not the TORTURE Chamber of the INQUISITION, Neither is it a REPRESENTATION of the ALARMING Results of NEGRO EMANCIPATION. It is merely The Turkish Bath in Latherington Street, W.' On the left a black servant attends to a white man. In the centre a man's legs are all that can be seen of him above the water. His servant is left on the steps holding his towel. Turkish Baths were, and continued to be, acceptable places for men to relax after the day's work. From Punch, or the London Charivari, January 20, 1866.
