'Our Australian Cousin', 1868. This cartoon refers to the visit made by Prince Alfred, Queen Victoria's second son, to Australia, then a British colony. Australia herself is depicted with a tame kangaroo, and holding a shepherd's crook, a reference to the sheep industry so important to the Australian economy. From Punch, or the London Charivari, January 25, 1868.
