'Another Napier!!', 1868. In 1867, King Theodore of Abyssinia had arbitrarily imprisoned a number of British citizens, including a British envoy and a British consul. In mid-November 1867, Parliament agreed that an expedition under the command of Sir Robert Napier should be sent to free the captives. In mid-April 1868, the captives were indeed released by Napier after a successful engagement against King Theodore at Magdala. After this defeat, King Theodore committed suicide. From Punch, or the London Charivari, May 9, 1868.
