'Going to the Country', 1868. Prime Minister Disraeli, First Lord of the Treasury, departs on his summer holidays at the conclusion of Parliament. He tells Mrs Bull that he will be back in the autumn, but perhaps only for a week or two. His security of tenure was, in fact, dependant upon his being able to retain power after having been defeated by Gladstone in the matter of his proposal to disestablish the Irish Church. From Punch, or the London Charivari, August 8, 1868.
