'Committed for Trial', 1869. A ruined man consoles his daughter. This refers to the trial of the former members of the firm of Overend, Gurney & Co, who were charged with an unlawful and deceitful conspiracy to sell shares in their company. Subsequent wild speculation had caused the company to fail and many members of the public lost money. On the 27th January, all the defendants were committed for trial. From Punch, or the London Charivari, February 6, 1869.
