'England's Intervention., 1870. In this cartoon, Britannia is shown offering comfort and to the soldiers of Prussia (left) and France (right). With her are the representatives of Britain's nurses who show their willingness to tackle all tasks to hand. This relates to the war that had broken out between France and Prussia. The British government had maintained its stance of neutrality, but ancillary support could be offered. The war had seen a number of fierce battles and both sides had sustained great loss. From Punch, or the London Charivari, August 27, 1870.
