'A French Lesson', 1871. Britannia remarks Is That the sort of thing you want, you Little Idiot? Britannia has grabbed a man promoting British Republicanism by the scruff of the neck. Sternly pointing over her shoulder towards France, the battles taking place on French soil should serve as a warning to the British activist. This relates to the events that took place in France after her defeat at the hands of the Prussian forces. Republican activists broke into open revolt and, with the help of the National Guard, barricades were erected, military leaders executed and the military headquarters taken over. From Punch, or the London Charivari, April 8, 1871.
