Out of the Bag!, 1871. The cat is let out of the bag. The Conservative leader of the opposition, Mr Disraeli, suggests that perhaps the Conservative statesmen, represented here by Lord Butterfingers, should have left the matter to him. Lord Butterfingers is the high-born representative of a number of peers, including Lords Salisbury, Carnarvon and Sandon. The matter in question was the Social Alliance believed to have been made between these statesmen and a council of skilled workmen. A document was said to have been signed that aimed at improving the state of the working class. However, nothing seems to have come of the matter at this time. From Punch, or the London Charivari, October 28, 1871.
