'The Old Whip', 1872. The Speaker of the House of Commons, Mr Denison, is seen on the occasion of his retirement. Newly created Viscount Ossington, he wears ermine and is depicted placing a crown atop his wig. His successor is the Hon Mr Henry Brand, a popular Whip, and confident he will be able to control proceedings in the House. From Punch, or the London Charivari, February 17, 1872.
