Bos Americanus; , 1877. An American bull, mapped out with its joints and cuts of meat, is carefully priced as it tosses the British butcher out of the way. The butcher has labels showing the price of beef to be 13 pence a pound, and mutton 1shilling a pound. Imports of American meat were growing rapidly and it was hoped that the increasing competition would force the nation's butchers to reduce their inflated prices. From Punch, or the London Charivari, March 10, 1877.
