'The Great Beetle Panic', 1877. The Colorado Beetle was a constant threat in the Victorian period and this cartoon depicts one beetle planning an around the world trip. There had been a recent Colorado scare, but after huge excitement and much panic, it turned out to be a ladybird. The Petroleum would be used to try and eliminate the beetle in Britain. This is an interesting cartoon as it shows Cooks Excursions in an illustration of the popularity of foreign travel in the period. From Punch, or the London Charivari, August 11, 1877.
