'On the Dizzy Brink', 1878.The Conservative Prime Minister, Disraeli, is now the Earl of Beaconsfield. Here, he is standing close to the edge of a precipice with War awaiting those foolish enough to fall. Britannia is not keen to go any nearer. This relates to the war between Russia and Turkey. Disraeli had maintained a neutral stance during the earlier conflict between Turkey and the Balkan States, but now he is being shown as one of those accused by John Bright of wishing to involve Britain in the conflict between Russia and Turkey. From Punch, or the London Charivari, January 19, 1878.
