'Little Victims', 1880. The Hare and the Rabbit are the Prince in the Tower in this cartoon, petrified by the menacing shadow on the wall behind them. This relates to the Liberal Home Secretary's Hares and Rabbits Bill (which subsequently became law as the Ground Game Act). Sir William Harcourt had introduced the bill to enable farmers to protect their crops from the ravages of wildlife. However, the wildlife also provided the weekend sport of the aristocracy. From Punch, or the London Charivari, August 28, 1880.
