Rest (?), 1881. A British Farmer looks down upon the resting Liberal Prime Minister, Gladstone. On the floor is the Irish Land Act. This Act had taken virtually all available debating time in the Commons over the past five months before being passed at the end of August 1881. Indeed it was almost the only result of the recent session and, as soon as it had been passed, the Session came to an end. It had been one of the longest of the current century. However, the farmer wonders when he and his industry will receive such attention. From Punch, or the London Charivari, September 3, 1881.
