"We Three", 1884. The Clown is Lord Randolph Churchill, the leader of a Conservative group known as the Fourth Party. He is sitting in between two Conservative grandees, the Leader in the Upper House, Lord Salisbury (left) and Sir Stafford Northcote (right). Punch reported that although Churchill was a brilliant man, he often embarrassed the more serious Conservative hierarchy with his ill-considered escapades and outrageous speeches. From "Punch, or the London Charivari", November 1, 1884.
