Taking Soundings, 1888. The Liberal Leader of the Opposition, Mr Gladstone, is on board ship and taking soundings of recent public opinion. Although there would not be a further General Election until 1902, Gladstone persistently kept trying to assess when he should try and force the Government to go to the country.
