Funeral of Albert (1819-1861), Prince Consort of Queen Victoria, 1861. The funeral procession in the nave of St George's Chapel, Windsor. The death of Albert in 1861, from typhoid fever, was a crushing blow to Queen Victoria, who wore mourning dress for the remaining 40 years of her life. From the first issue of The Illustrated London News to be published after Albert's death, from typhoid fever, on 14 December 1861. The black border denotes the nation's mourning.
