Henry IV (1367-1413), first Lancastrian king of England, 1399. The son of John of Gaunt, Henry was known as Henry Bolingbroke after his birthplace in Lincolnshire. This scene depicts his coronation at Westminster in 1399, after Henry had deposed King Richard II. Men play musical instruments in borders illuminated with foliage, flowers and birds.
