William Bateson (1861-1926), British geneticist, 1914. Bateson translated the studies of Gregor Mendel and helped to establish Mendel's theory of inheritance. In 1882 he became the first to coin the term 'genetics'. Photograph published in 1914 when he was President of the British Association for the Advancement of Science.
