Headpiece from Thomas More's Utopia, 1518. First published in 1516, Utopia was a work depicting an ideal state where reason ruled. The illustration shows More in discussion with Raphael Hythlodaeus (Hythloday), the traveller and philosopher through whose eyes the utopian state is described in the book, and Peter Giles.
