Greek manuscript of Ptolemy's Geography. Ptolemy (Claudius of Ptolemeus) (c90-168) was an Alexandrian astronomer and geographer. His famous summary of Greek astronomical ideas and his theories of the universe dominated western ideas on astronomy and geography until the time of Copernicus, fourteen centuries later.
