Trial of Queen Caroline in the House of Lords, London, 1820 (1821). Caroline of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (1768-1821) married the future King George IV of Great Britain in 1795.The marriage was a disaster, and Caroline lived estranged from her husband from 1796 onwards. When George ascended to the throne in 1820, Caroline returned to Britain, but George had already instigated divorce proceedings and she was barred from attending his coronation.
