Charlotte Corday, murderer of French revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat, 1793. Corday (1768-1793), a Girondin, stabbed Marat, a radical Jacobin, to death in the bath at his home. Her action provoked severe reprisals against both Girondins and royalists. Corday herself was guillotined on 17 July 1793 for Marat's murder.
