Rolle Canal and Aqueduct, near Torrington, Devon, 1829. Horses drawing tub boats over the aqueduct. The Rolle Canal was built at the instigation of Lord Rolle to link his estate's corn mills with the Torridge Estuary and the port of Bideford. The engineer for the project, completed in 1823, was James Green. Hand-coloured engraving after T Allom from Devonshire Illustrated, 1829.
