Flavius Josephus, Jewish soldier and historian. Although born to a priestly Jewish family, Flavius Josephus (c37-c100) supported the Roman cause in the Jewish revolt of 66-70. His History of the Jewish War written in 79 is regarded as the principal source on the rebellion. Flavius' gretest work was The Antiquities of the Jews, an account of the history of Judaism up to the revolt.
