The death of Admiral Casabianca and his son at the Battle of the Nile, Egypt, 1798, (19th century). Admiral Louis de Casabianca (c1755-1798) commanded the 'Orient', flagship of Napoleon's fleet. During the Battle of the Nile (known in France as the Battle of Aboukir Bay), the commander of the fleet was killed and Casabianca assumed command. Despite being seriously wounded he remained at his post. His young son, Giocante, refused to leave him, and both died aboard the flaming 'Orient'.
