The Lunar Rover, which enabled the Apollo astronauts to travel further across the moon, was first used on Apollo 15. Apollo 15, the fourth successful lunar landing mission, was launched on 26 July 1971. It carried astronauts David Scott, Irwin and Alfred Worden. Worden remained in lunar orbit in the Apollo Command and Service Module while the other two astronauts descended to the moon.
