'Battle of Poitiers' (1356), 1830. Also known as 'King John at the Battle of Poitiers'. Engagement during the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) between England and France. On 13 September 1356 the English under Edward the Black Prince (1330-1376) defeated the French and captured their King, Jean le Bon (John the Good) and held him to ransom.
