Phoenician bronze bowl from Nimrud, Assyria, 8th century BC. Originating from the area of modern Lebanon, the Phoenicians were notable traders in the Mediterranean in the 1st Millenium BC. By the end of the 8th century BC Phoenicia had been annexed by the Assyrian Empire.
