Gideon Algernon Mantell, English geologist, 1852. In 1820 Mantell (1790-1852) discovered fossil parts of the Iguanodon and deduced from its teeth that it was a herbivore, not a carnivore like previously known dinosaurs. Engraving published in The Illustrated London News at the time of Mantell's death. (London, 1852).
