'Good and Evil', 19th century. The rewards women might expect as a result of their conduct. Christ sits in judgment (top), sorting the blessed on his right from the damned on his left. In the main panel the Archangel Michael shields the blessed while the Devil (Lucifer) tempts the damned. Vignettes around the edge depict the rewards for goodness and evil: Chastity, Marriage, Motherhood, and Happiness, or Lust, Rejection, Distress of the unmarried mother, Suicide in desperation.
