Blowing up Flood Rock, 1885, (1886). Engraving made the year after the explosion. The rock was part of the Hell Gate Rocks complex which prevented large vessels reaching New York Harbour, and presented a hazard to smaller ones. Dynamite was the explosive used. From Le Journal de la Jeunesse. (Paris, 1886).
