The Briars, St Helena, early 19th century (1851). After his voyage into exile on St Helena in 1815, Longwood, the house Napoleon was to occupy, was not ready for him. Until he could take up residence there he wa a guest of the Balcome family at The Briars. From Souvenir of the Emperor Napoleon. (London, 1851).
