Hypnosis subject suffering from imaginary toothache, 1891. An Irish physician using the pseudonym 'Dr Stanley' gave a demonstration of hypnosis using the methods of French neurologist Jean Martin Charcot (1825-1893). The event was held at the Hotel Metropole, London, and was under the auspices of members of the medical profession. From The Illustrated London News. (London, 1891).
