Victoria Falls, Africa, 1857. Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone (1813-1873) was the first European to see the great falls on the River Zambezi in 1855. Livingstone named the falls for Queen Victoria. From David Livingstone Missionary Travel and Researches in South Africa. (London, 1857).
