'Stonehenge', c1835. The Neolithic stone circle on Salisbury Plain is thought to have been used to observe the motions of the moon and sun, and was built about 2,000 BC. Constable shows the megaliths bathed in light against a stormy sky with a double rainbow. From the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
