Section from the Mayan Troano Codex, 15th century. The Troano Codex is a manuscript of the late period of the Mayan civilization in Central America. It is actually part of a larger document known as the Madrid Codex, which was separated after being brought to Europe. It is one of only four Mayan codices known to have survived. The manuscripts describe astronomical observations, astrology and rituals.
