'Bathsheba at her Bath', 1654. According to the Old Testament, Bathsheba was the wife of Uriah. She committed adultery with King David of Israel and became pregnant. David tried to persuade Uriah to sleep with his wife in order to cover up David's adultery, but he refused to return from war to do so, after which David had Uriah murdered. Bathsheba then became David's wife, and mother of King Solomon. From the Musee du Louvre, Paris.
